CIHI says data on bedsores obtained at hospitals, LTCs are incomplete

The director of health systems analysis and emerging issues at CIHI notes it's impossible to get good data on how prevalent pressure ulcers (bedsores) obtained in hospital or in long-term care. She explains that figures are most complete from Alberta, B.C. and Ontario but that data from other provinces are sporadic or non-existent, which likely means the problem is being under-reported. She adds there is no national standard to collect statistics and that without better quality data, it's difficult for the health system to get a handle on the issue.
