Vancouver's St. Paul's Hospital opened a model of healthcare for patients with mental health and substance use challenges. The St Paul's Hospital HUB centralizes four patient-care services for a "wraparound" effect so patients don’t fall between the cracks. It bring together:

  1. The Emergency Department HUB, which has 10 beds for rapid treatment of patients;
  2. The Vancouver Police Foundation Transitional Care Centre, where patients can stay after being released while they are being connected to community supports;
  3. The Rapid Access Addiction Clinic, which provides outpatient medical support for substance-use disorder; and
  4. The Overdose Prevention Site, which oversees safe substance use. Nursing support is also available 24 hours a day.
