The initiative was launched in the spring of 2021 and hired over 170 nurses have been hired so far. As part of the program, newly registered nurses can receive up to $10,000 for a three-year commitment in a full time or part time role. The program aims hard to fill positions with the two regional health authorities or with Extra Mural/Ambulance New Brunswick. The program’s based on an agreement between the provincial government and the NBNU. As of Dec. 2021, there were about 1,300 vacant nursing positions in N.B., including RNs, LPNs and NPs. The situation is similar in N.S., with over 800 RN vacancies alone.
