England created an additional National Health Service (NHS) unit to scan billions of pages of patient records and upload them to Amazon Web Services. The plan is create a national cloud-based repository for GPs and hospital paper records that could be accessed through a browser. The country’s NHS organizations will be required to pay for scanning and uploading but NHS believes there will be considerable savings by reducing storage space and staff time physically transporting paper files.
