The Children's Hospital for Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa completed a three-year pilot project in which ambulances were modified so that they could become mobile neonatal ICUs for the hospital's coverage area. CHEO states that the units reduce the amount of time spent getting to patients, as well as cutting down on stabilization times and on the number of patients admitted to the hospital. CHEO will present its model to Ontario's health minister to see if it can be implemented province-wide.
