The Scottish government will extend a community pharmacy minor ailments program (MAS) across the country following a pilot in Glasgow. As part of the pilot, pharmacists booked consultations with patients to treat minor ailments and illnesses, coordinated support for patients with long-term conditions, carried out medication reviews and supported older patients with home visits and support to patients in local care homes. MAS was introduced in Scotland pharmacies in 2006, but was limited to serve children, those aged over 60, people with a medical exemption certificate, and those on certain benefits. It will now become available to everyone, irrespective of age and social circumstance and will be extended to cover more common conditions.
