B.C.'s Attorney General filed a class-action lawsuit in the province's supreme court against over 40 defendants, including opioid manufacturers, wholesalers and pharmacy chains. The goal is to recover some of the millions of dollars the provincial government spent on healthcare resulting from opioid abuse. The provincial government alleges stakeholders' marketing practices since 1996 are contributing to the opioid crisis. B.C. is representing all federal, provincial and territorial governments and agencies. Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Yukon are also reviewing the matter.
