In an effort to help patients spend less time sitting in the ER waiting room, student entrepreneurs in Fredericton created an app that would notify less urgent patients when their turn to see an ER doctor is approaching. Such apps are already in use as restaurant wait-list apps to decrease the wait times for walk-in clients. To use the app, people would still go through the triage system at the hospital, but less urgent cases would then leave and expect to be notified when to return. The app’s founders are working with the New Brunswick Medical Society and Horizon Health Network to discuss implementation.
