CMAJ points out that when presented with a patient with co- or multi-morbidities, physicians tend to think about the individual conditions independently and not about the complex interactions between them. Treatments follow the same pattern, with physicians seeking remedies that cover a specific ailment. A study from the University of Toronto suggests more research is needed into co-interventions, which target multiple illnesses, as the siloed approach that treats single diseases may not be as beneficial.
