The non-profit group People for Education conducted a survey of Ontario schools and found 26% of high school guidance counsellors spent more time in one-on-one mental health counselling with students than with any other issue. For elementary schools, the figure is 20%. The group calls on the incoming PC government in Ontario to address issues relating to student mental health, such as access to guidance counsellors, educational assistants, psychologists and other mental health professionals.
