A report from CIHI finds that 45% of unpaid caregivers of individuals with dementia suffer from distress. These individuals typically spend 26 hours per week caring for seniors with dementia, which is nine hours longer than the amount of informal care provided to other seniors. CIHI also suggests that out-of-pocket costs paid by informal caregivers totalled $1.4 billion in 2016. The other topics covered by the "Dementia in Canada" series include:
