A report into factors causing health inequalities from StatsCan finds 22 indicators that underlie differences in health outcomes across Canada. Health determinant indicators can be daily living conditions such as high alcohol consumption; smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke; early childhood development and core housing need. Similarly, structural drivers, for example, household food insecurity and working poverty, can be health determinant indicators. Socioeconomic factors were found to impact life expectancy and mortality, mental health and chronic illnesses.
