The Supporting Healthy Aging by Peer Education and Support (SHAPES) program, developed by the University of Alberta, trained seniors to act as health coaches for others in their age group. The focus for the year-long pilot project is on seniors' brain, bone and heart health. Following the trial, researchers will determine if the peer-to-peer model influences health behaviours, with an eye to expanding the program next year.
