The survey found a strong majority of Canadians believe that when a provincial healthcare system fails to provide timely medical treatment, patients on wait lists should have a Charter right to pay for private care services. Overall, the poll shows 76% of Canadians are in favour of having the right to private healthcare when waiting lists are too long for treatment. Support was lowest in Atlantic Canada at 67%. The highest number of those in favour of the right to private healthcare were in B.C. and Quebec, where 80% said they strongly or somewhat agree the Canadian Charter should allow it.
