The Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals authorized members to dispense mifegymiso in 2017. However, a recent education program from the association brought the policy change to the public sphere. Pharmacists will be allowed to dispense the contraceptive, which a spokesperson for the Pharmacy Association of Saskatchewan (PAS) says will benefit women in rural and remote communities, who won't have to travel to a doctor's office to obtain the drug. She adds that under an expanded scope of practice, the PAS is also allowed to prescribe medications to treat urinary tract infections.
