The Manitoba Government introduced healthcare coverage for international post-secondary students in 2012. That policy is under review, as the provincial Conservatives look to trim costs from its healthcare budget. A full repeal of the program would save the Manitoba government $3.1 million per year, a health department spokesperson says. The Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Federation of Students says such a move would make international students think twice about coming to the province for studies by adding healthcare fees on top of their education costs.
