Care coordination services could act as middle ground in MAiD debate: CMAJ

CMAJ says an Ontario court ruling means a physician personal beliefs are trumped by a patient's right for care. The court ruled that physicians who object to medical assistance in dying (MAiD) for moral or religious reasons must refer their patient to another physician who'll carry out the procedure. CMAJ states that there needs to be a balance between the rights of patients and those of doctors. It suggests that care coordination services for MAiD to access for self- or caregiver referrals should be available across the country. That way, physicians unwilling to provide a direct referral for MAiD could provide information about options that include coordination services without providing a direct referral.
