A program in Guelph, Ont., provides a safe space for those experiencing substance abuse problems who aren't sick enough for hospital but still require medical supervision. Paramedics monitor the well-being of patients in the two-bed Supportive Recovery Rooms program. In the first 12 days, nine patients spent a total of 180 hours recovering at the facility. The pilot is for 90 days, after which local organizers in Guelph will try to secure additional funding to make the program more permanent.
