The C.D. Howe Institute compared healthcare systems in 11 OECD countries and found Canada was ahead of only France and the U.S. on performance metrics. To remedy the perceived shortcomings of domestic healthcare delivery, the institute recommends provinces should learn from one another and adopt best practices that are already being implemented domestically. It adds that progress on hot-button issues like wait times and drug and dental coverage would improve Canada's standing but that some provinces, particularly those in Atlantic Canada, require more fundamental changes in preventative, safe and coordinated care to move the needle further.
