NHS England to increase number of surgery-based clinical pharmacists

The NHS England program proved popular with patients and GP practices. The U.K. government plans to add over 160 more pharmacists, increase the number of clinical pharmacists in general practice from 580 to over 1,100 across over 3,200 GP practices, covering over 40% of surgeries in the country. In the program, clinical pharmacists work as part of the GP team by offering clinical expertise on day-to-day medicine issues and providing consultations with patients directly. The services include assistance in managing long-term conditions, more effectively preventing cardiovascular disease and offering advice for those on a variety of medications.
