The grounds of a hospital that once housed mentally ill patients in Coquitlam will be the site of a facility for people suffering from mental health and addiction. The B.C. government will reopen its 105-bed Riverview psychiatric hospital in 2019, replacing the current Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addiction. The addition to the centre will include 11 additional beds and will feature individual rooms and therapeutic design elements to better support recovery, such as healing spaces, natural light, Indigenous artwork and views of the Riverview lands. The centre will use telehealth to support team-based approaches to care and improve communication between providers wherever they are.
