In releasing an action plan for seniors, Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne pledged to spend $115 million over the next three years to create up to 5,000 LTC beds by fiscal year 2021-2022, with a promise of up to 30,000 new spaces over the next decade. The premier also acknowledged that understaffing means many LTC residents aren't falling short of the four hours of daily care experts say is the minimum. To that end, the Ontario government will provide an additional 15 million hours of nursing, personal support and therapeutic care annually for LTC residents.
