A month after protesters criticized the provincial government for putting a mental health emergency wing on hold, Saskatchewan's health minister says a temporary mental health assessment unit will be established in Saskatoon. The project received a $1-million private donation for construction but the provincial government balked over staffing concerns. The assessment unit will allow care for up to seven mental health patients at a time. Meanwhile, a permanent mental health emergency care unit for adults will be part of a children's hospital scheduled to open in Saskatoon in 2019.
