The New Brunswick government won't release additional details on doctors' billings, choosing to go against the recommendation of the province's information and privacy commissioner. Anne Bertrand had called for the Department of Health to release precise billing details - the exact dollar figure each doctor billed Medicare for, along with their name and medical speciality - Health Minister Victor Boudreau maintained the department is justified in keeping this data secret, citing physicians' personal privacy as a primary reason. Boudreau also argued that a physician's relationship with the department is unique to any employee or supplier remunerated through public dollars, and that a request for physician billing isn't authorized or required under a section of the Medical Services Payment Act.
