A survey of physicians conducted Alberta Health Services found that nearly half of doctors who responded don't believe their opinions are valued by AHS managers. Other results from the poll include:
- More than one-third think patient safety decisions aren't made at the proper level and by the most qualified people;
- Forty-three percent feel AHS senior management doesn't understand the risks associated with patient care; and
- Only 13% could cite changes that AHS made in the past year that had a significant positive impact on their practice.
Despite the statistics, a University of Ottawa health-law professor said it's difficult to gauge the significance of doctors' concerns about quality of care without a comparison of results from previous years.
