The Kootenay East Regional Hospital District board approved an additional $30 million in funding for the F.W. Green Home expansion project in Cranbrook, bringing the total project cost to $232 million. The expansion will be a 150-bed long-term care facility built over five years. The funding model involves the province covering 60% of the costs, while regional hospital boards, funded by local property taxes, cover up to 40%. The decision was contentious due to the significant financial commitment required from regional taxpayers, who will now contribute $92.8 million, with the province providing the remaining $139.24 million.
