Report urges systemic change for culturally safe birthing care in BC's First Nations communities

The First Nations Health Authority's Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) released a report urging health system partners in British Columbia to provide culturally safe pre and post-natal care for First Nations Lifegivers in rural and remote communities. The report highlights the need to end Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination in healthcare. It emphasizes the importance of creating an equitable health system and calls for more engagement from health system partners to build relationships with First Nations communities. The OCMO also organized a Forum on First Nations Birthing Sovereignty to address these issues.
