Man. experienced more than double the national average of diabetes-associated leg amputations, with rates of 19 per 100,000 compared to the national rate of 9 per 100,000, based on a report issued by the Canadian Institute for Health Information. Factors such as living in remote areas may contribute to the higher rates in the province. The report suggests that a multi-level approach involving prevention, primary care and acute care is necessary to reduce the number of amputations.
