A Montreal Economic Institute study found that young nurses are leaving the profession throughout the country, with 40 out of every 100 nurses under the age of 35 quitting before reaching their 35th birthday. This attrition rate increased by 25% since 2013, contributing to a projected shortage of 117,600 nurses by 2030. N.B. had the highest turnover, with 80.2 young nurses departing for every 100 who joined in 2022, reflecting a 51% rise since 2013. The study's results align with findings from the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions, which found that Canadian nurses younger than 35 are more prone to resign from their jobs or abandon the profession altogether than to continue in their current roles.
