The province is experiencing unprecedented hospital capacity problems that will worsen in the coming years due to underfunding, according to a report by CUPE's Ontario Council of Hospital Unions. The number of patients receiving treatment in unconventional spaces like hospital hallways and storage closets has already risen by 25% since June 2018. Accounting for an aging population and multiple other factors, it's estimated that the province requires about 16,800 more hospital beds by 2032. However, the government currently has plans to add just 3,000 beds.
