LTC homes need to focus more on supporting residents' mental health: standards group

The standard provides guidance for facility administrators and staff on how to promote good mental well-being for residents while also screening and providing treatment for dementia and mental illnesses. The guidelines suggest staff in LTC and assisted living homes should develop meaningful relationships with residents and their families and recommend creating a more home-like environment. Most LTC residents have a diagnosis of dementia or a mental health condition, with high rates of depression and anxiety.
