Sask. hospital has Canada's first portable pediatric MRI

For patients on life support, moving them to an MRI scanner can be a difficult experience, which includes going to another hospital or being pushed across hallways with the possibility of being disconnected. Unlike regular MRI scanners, the Swoop Portable MRI System is mobile, smaller and quieter than a typical MRI machine. The portable MIR also allows parents at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital to be in the room and hold their child’s hand during the scan. As a result, children may not require sedatives. While not yet approved for use on babies, it’ll be used on patients as young as two years old.
