The Ottawa Hospital began providing patients with adhesive bandages that complement a variety of skin tones. The bandages, which come in three shades, were made available through a contract negotiated by a not-for-profit that sources medical supplies on behalf of Canadian hospitals. The initiative began when the hospital’s Director of Medical Imaging saw bandages matching her black skin tone at the drugstore and wondered if they could offer them at the hospital. As one of the first hospitals in Canada to adopt these bandages, it hopes to inspire other healthcare organizations to make this small step towards inclusive care.
