The N.B. government is searching for a location for a treatment facility to double its capacity and address a growing drug addiction crisis. Premier Blaine Higgs promised an additional 50 beds for treatment for adults, arguing addiction is one of the causes of a growing homelessness crisis. Advocates for those struggling with addiction say those spots are desperately needed as N.B. cities see a rise in substance use, overdose calls and drug-related deaths. Higgs says the province will roll out a program that offers four to six months of treatment, which will treat 100 to 140 individuals each year.
Advocates say 50 rehab beds urgently needed in N.B.
