Initiative increases access to smoking cessation support for cancer patients

A report shows 95% of cancer care settings offer support to help people quit smoking, compared to 56% in 2017. In addition, 49% of cancer care settings offer culturally appropriate supports to First Nations, Inuit and Métis, compared to 18% in 2018. By quitting smoking, a person's cancer treatment becomes more effective and their chance of survival increases by about 40%. When the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer began this initiative, only two provinces were helping people with cancer quit smoking.
