Sask.’s use of private surgical centres among initiatives used to break surgical record

Sask.’s surgical system achieved the highest volumes ever recorded in the first six months of the fiscal year from Apr. 1 to Sept. 30. As of Sept. 30, 47,748 procedures were performed, an increase of 10.4% YoY. The provincial government says additional investment into publicly funded and privately delivered surgical services allowed further expansion of provincial capacity. Approximately 19% of all surgeries performed since 2020 took place in private surgical centres, reducing COVID-19 pandemic related backlogs and increasing overall volumes.
