Fredericton doctors say inaction on new OR resulting in delayed cancer treatments

Senior Fredericton physicians are calling on the provincial government to open a specialized surgical suite at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital that would enable surgeons to do imaging, biopsy, diagnosis and surgery all in the same room, without having to move the patient between an imaging suite and an OR. They say the delay is resulting in a six-week wait for biopsies to diagnose cancer. The provincial government believes the first hybrid OR should be in Saint John, where most procedures are done within the province.
