The shortage of family doctors is one of the driving forces behind the program at Lakeridge Health, a satellite campus of Queen’s University. Every student enrolled in the program committed to becoming a family doctor after they complete their schooling. In traditional programs, only 30% of medical school graduates choose family medicine as their first choice for residency and that number declined over the last decade. Students will work in community clinics during the week, a first in Canada.
