Figures from the Department of Social Development show a total of 984 New Brunswickers were on the waiting list for a nursing home space at the end of Aug. The Moncton region had the most with 280 people, 136 of whom were in hospital. The Coalition for Seniors and Nursing Home Residents’ Rights is calling on the provincial government to fix the system. Social development says staff are working in hospitals to assist those waiting for a nursing home space, which could include interim placements or safe home support options.
