New Brunswickers asking province to fund cost of ostomy supplies

N.B. is one of two provinces that doesn’t offer any coverage of supplies, including pouches and wafers, that are part of a system that collects waste from a stoma. The Ostomy Canada Society says the only people who are covered are those with insurance, First Nations people and prisoners. The amount a person pays depends on how often they have to change their pouch. Last year, the cost of supplies went up four times. To cover the costs, the Society said they’ve seen people cut back on medications, food and even try to move to a cheaper apartment. The provincial government states it offers coverage to those who hold a valid white health card.
