Ont. rolls out programs to boost health staffing

The province is starting three programs aimed to bolster staffing in the healthcare sector:

  1. A $40-million fund to encourage healthcare providers to better connect patients to services;
  2. A program to allow internationally trained physicians to work more quickly; and
  3. A nursing mentor program.

Hospitals across the province are grappling with a shortage of nurses that led to dozens of temporary ER closures. There are 9,000 RN vacancies in Ont.
