Study shows global diabetes cases could soar to 1.3B by 2050

The study found cases are expected to soar from 529 million to 1.3 billion by 2050 mostly because there’s no mitigation strategy to tackle or reduce the disease. The growing number of people with diabetes is in part because of rising obesity but also demographic shifts as the disease is mostly found among older adults. Researchers say most cases, globally, are T2D, the form of the disease linked to obesity. They conclude early diagnosis, patient education and regular visits to healthcare providers can prevent or at least delay the onset of T2D.
