N.B. bill allows province to sue over opioid-related healthcare costs

The bill allows the N.B. government to join a class-action lawsuit, led by B.C. against opioid manufacturers and distributors, to recover healthcare costs related to the opioid crisis. The act also enables the province to launch its own suit. N.B. was the only province other than Que. without such legislation, which provides a legal framework to seek damages from pharmaceutical companies. N.B. recorded 46 opioid-related deaths last year. That's about 5.1 deaths per 100,000 people.
