The U.K. government believes giving more options of where patients can go for treatment, including in the independent sector, could cut up to three months off waiting times after being referred by a GP for treatment. Information for healthcare providers filtered by distance, waiting times and quality of care will be available to patients after they’ve spoken to their GP and they can choose which option they prefer through the NHS app or website. The NHS app has over 32 million sign ups and receives around 75 million visits monthly. Patients are able to book and manage their GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions and manage their hospital referrals.
