Almost 30% of children in Ont. who begin school have at least one developmental vulnerability that could affect their lifelong health, learning and behaviour. This $97-million program, offered at children’s hospitals in Hamilton, Toronto and Ottawa, will offer more services to kids with complex needs, such as developmental and intellectual disabilities and mental health concerns. It’s intended to connect families to healthcare professionals, including doctors, social workers and behavioural consultants. The team would then collaborate to offer services such as adjusting medications, implementing behaviour support plans, doing mental health assessments and counselling.
