N.S. funding initiative to promote nursing programs, recruit Indigenous healthcare workers

The province says it needs more Mi’kmaq and Indigenous people to consider careers in healthcare. It’ll give $28,000 in funding to health and wellness authority Tajikeimik to assist in recruiting. In collaboration with the L’nu Nursing Initiative at Dalhousie University, Tajikeimik will create a magazine and website focusing on Mi’kmaq nurses and career opportunities. The resources will:

  • Promote nursing programs;
  • Provide information to navigate application processes; and
  • Showcase Mi'kmaq role models in the healthcare industry.

For its part, Réseau Santé was approved for $73,000 to develop a website in French and English to attract French-speaking mental healthcare professionals.
