An Edmonton clinic went from about a dozen physicians on staff to only four. As the remaining doctors were taking on some patients who were left behind, the clinic instituted a lottery to determine which patients would be without a family physician moving forward. A patient who tried the online doctor search run by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta found the data on the site were inaccurate. Alta.'s health minister says the province has numerous initiatives to attract and retain physicians but won't interfere if doctors decide to quit family clinics.
