B.C. cracking down on private health clinics while Ont. uses them to reduce wait times

B.C.’s medical services agency asked for an injunction against Harrison Healthcare, alleging that the company, which has clinics in Vancouver and Calgary, is charging patients for bundled health services covered under the public healthcare system in violation of the Medicare Protection Act. The injunction application makes similar arguments to one filed against TELUS Health in Dec., targeting the company’s subscription-based health service, Life Plus. The B.C. government made it clear the province is moving away from private healthcare, even while provinces such as Ont. look to private clinics to reduce surgical wait times.
