N.S. is among the last provinces still using paper medical records. The $365-million, 10-year deal for the One Person One Record system will roll out in two years at hospitals and health centres. The system will replace and connect over 80 existing medical record systems and allow healthcare workers access to real-time patient data. Currently, on average, healthcare workers need to access at least five systems to get a clear idea of a patient’s health information. The digital record system’s expected to reduce surgery wait times, cut down on duplicate medical testing and improve emergency care. It’ll also allow paramedics travelling to an emergency to view a patient’s medical records.
