Healthcare panel call for access to primary care team within 30-minute drive of home, work

The Public Policy Forum believes healthcare funding should be rooted in health outcomes that matter most to Canadians. As well, the report recognizes health as an economic pillar and pushes for reforms necessary to achieve timely, accessible care. It argues for goals to guide reform, including:

• Access to a primary care team within a 30-minute drive of where Canadians live or work;
• The free, accredited movement of doctors, nurses, technicians and other healthcare workers within Canada;
• Personal data mobility; and
• Better empowerment of family and friends to care for loved ones.

In an open letter to Canadians, the think tank posits that the healthcare system isn't a possession of politicians, or the property of stakeholders claiming special status to speak in its interest. It concludes healthcare reform doesn't have to wait for a grand bargain that all governments should bless at the same time.
